Do You Really Need to Purchase a Hermit Crab Sand
When it comes to choosing a hermit crab habitat, one should be very extra careful with the substrate that they put to their crabitat. If you are purchasing a substrate material for your pet hermit crab, and someone approaches to you and tells you that you should only buy a hermit crab sand, then don't be fooled. Do not buy that sand. A lot of pet shop offer a hermit crab sand but the truth behind that sand is that it is just sand. When it comes to sand, a grain of sand will always be the same grain of sand. So, there is nothing special with that sand. What you have to purchase though, is a play sand. Play sand is cheaper and it is even finer. The play sand can be bought from Home Depots and other hardware store. However you just have to be sure that that sand is not contaminated. Look at the sand first and see if there are any insects on it. You should not use a sand with some insects as a substrate. Also, be sure that the sand is not too wet or too dry.
Buying My Very Own Horse
Ever since I was a little girl I wanted a horse of my very own. I loved everything about them and used to read all the books I could with horses in them. Now that I am older I decided that it was time to make my dream a reality and buy my own horse. My father in law had some land he was willing to let me keep it on so I started looking for horses for sale in my area. My searching found me a great website that surprisingly showed me that there were a lot of horses for sale in my area, so much so that I had a hard time choosing one. I was able to go out to a few farms and look at the horses and interact with them a little before I made my choice. Now I have an Arabian that is named Alex.
Consistency and Dominance: Two Clues to Successful Dog Training
When people think of dog training the first thing that springs to mind is teaching a dog to sit, stay, lie down and so on. But dog training is actually a very broad field taking in many different techniques. Dogs can be taught to do an amazing array of things. Just think about the many ways in which humans employ dogs. They are used by the police and military, as guide dogs for the blind, and as protectors of property. They can herd livestock, pull sleds and detect contraband. They are entertainers, guardians and companions. And these are just a few of the many jobs that dogs can be taught to do for us. If you have a pet dog, its unlikely that you'll need him to do any of the advanced jobs I've described. But you will, no doubt, want him to be housetrained, obedient and well mannered. The point is, that if a dog can be taught to do something as complex as guiding a blind person, or detecting a bomb, then the stuff you need to teach your dog should be a breeze, right? Well yes, and no. Training a dog is not difficult, but like any skill it requires technique, application and patience. If you're prepared to put in the time and effort, you'll be rewarded with an obedient dog. If not, your dog will continue with his bad behavior. As I often say when discussing training methods, consistency is key. A consistent schedule, consistent voice and hand commands, consistent corrections and an even, consistent temperament are needed. Make training part of a regular routine. Many dog owners mistakenly think that a training session every "now and then" will deliver results, but this is almost never the case. Dogs are creatures of habit, and they learn by repetition, so use this to your advantage. Another important factor is dominance. A dog that respects you as a leader will be easy to train. A dog that does not, will have no reason to obey you. Why should he, when he sees you as subservient? Exerting dominance though is not about punishment or aggression. It simply means that you are assertive in your interactions with the dog. The dog must obey you in all circumstances, and you need to exert your dominance by insisting on compliance. But you need to do this in a calm way. Do not raise your voice or lose patience, as these will be interpreted as signs of weakness. A dog faced with an owner who stands his ground and refuses to give in, will invariable back down. One thing you should never do is to physically punish the dog. This will not make him obey you. On the contrary, it will often make him more disobedient. A dog that is physically abused will generally react in one of two ways - he'll either become overly timid, or he'll become aggressive. Needless to say, neither of these scenarios will help with dog training. But aside from that, physical abuse of a dog is both despicable and, in many countries illegal, so don't do it. Aside from consistency and dominance, it is also important to use a proven dog training methodology. It would be pretty pointless spending months training your dog if your instructions are just confusing him. There are many excellent books and training courses available both online and offline, so there really is no excuse to get this wrong. And remember that dog names play a very important role in training your dog. The dog's name is your attention getter. It's what tells the dog that you are talking to him. As such it needs to be a name that he responds to first time, every time. Research suggests that one or two syllable names work best, so chose wisely. If in doubt, try puppy names hq.com, a resource with thousands of excellent female dog names and male dog names.

I Bought My Sister a Betta Fish Care Book and I Hope She Reads It
My sister just bought a new aquarium, but she knows nothing about proper care of exotic fish. I went to Barnes and Noble and bought her a betta fish care book, which talks about all of the important things you need to know to keep and raise a healthy betta fish. I know that she is going to get some bettas because of how many pictures of these amazing looking fish she has in her room - they are everywhere! When you go in there it is like being in an aquarium. She also has a betta fish screensaver, and betta fish wallpaper on her facebook page. I hope that she actually takes the time to read the betta care book, because they are really not as hardy as a lot of people think they are, and poor tank conditions or water that is too acidic can get them sick very quickly.

Veterinarians Through Time: Louis Camuti
When it comes to passion, Louis J. Camuti (1893 -1981) stands out. As a veterinarian, he was the first in the United States to devote his practice entirely to cats. His love for cats came from his gratefulness to his pet cat for saving his life back when he was eleven years old and sick with typhoid.
In the year 1932, he began his veterinary practice on cats, at a time when most veterinarians did not provide such service. For over sixty years, he would make house calls on cats all over New York City.
He authored two books, Park Avenue Vet and All My Patients Are Under The Bed: Memoirs of a Cat Doctor in 1962 and 1980, respectively, each narrating his experiences in his practice as a cat veterinarian.
To this day, his work continues through the efforts of former patients and friends who honor his valiant efforts committed to providing health to cats through the Dr. Louis J. Camuti Memorial Fund at Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine's Feline Health Center.
It’s Not Us It’s You, or Them
The board of executives in charge of responding to the Blue Buffalo Dog food reviews, commented that people shouldn't write bad reviews if you bought Dog food at your local store and it, the food, ended up being expired. I wonder though, is that consumer really to blame. One has to assume that a full investigation was carried out into the reason for the bad food, presuming also that the food wasn't just bad. The Blue people claimed that the store was at fault and that the food had overstayed its shelving time - a reasonable enough claim. But what if there was some validity to the complaint; was there compensation involved? - a free Blue buffalo hamper maybe. It reminds me of the time I found a piece of string in my biscuit; needless to say I was well taken care of with plenty more 'safe' biscuits being sent my way by the unmentioned company.

The Death of Temba
For a Muslim who is not supposed to have a dog in the house, I have had an array of dogs over the past four decades, and currently still have a massive Great Dane who thinks he owns the property, and an old Belgian Shepherd named Tupac. The most loyal dog, however was Temba, a gentle black Belgian Shepherd who stayed with me and protected me on our walks on Duisenberg beach, and even took a back seat when the cocky Siberian Husky, China moved onto the premises. I just had to say, Temba, and she was there. She had always had fleas and ticks, and I was always at the vet with her for her dog skin problems. One morning, however, Temba didn't come when I called her and I went out to look. She was at the back of the property, a very leafy garden, not feeling well. I said, ?Temba?? She struggled to her feet and tried to follow me. On the top step of the porch she fell down, went into a fit, and died right before my eyes.
My Puppy's Problems
My mother warned me that I should not get a puppy from a pet store. She told me that many of them have medical problems, but the store owners do not tell customers that fact. I did not believe my mom, though. I went out and bought a little golden retriever puppy from a pet store. I thought that he was really cute, and I liked the way that he jumped up and licked my face. Unfortunately, my mother was right when she gave me her warning. The puppy has serious health issues. He is blind in one eye, and he has some parasites living on his skin. Also, the veterinarian just told me that he has been having seizures. She told me that there is treatment for dog seizures, but I am still sad that my puppy has all these problems. I love him, but I still wish that I had listened to my mom and not bought a puppy from a pet store.
